The agribusiness development project in Benin offers an opportunity for young people wishing to enter the field of agricultural entrepreneurship.According to the communique, the project plans to impact 1,000 young and female farmers by 2021, by facilitating access to land, access to fi nance and market access for their products.
This project has had an impact in the past, 101 young people in 2018 and will select 1000 young people, at 100 per agricultural development agency (ATDA) in each pole of agricultural development. Informed of this windfall, a young person interviewed on the subject explains that these kinds of initiatives aim to get young people out of unemployment and misery.
The program is seeking applications in the agro-processing sector, packaging of agricultural products and marketing of agricultural products in the sectors identified. Asked about this subject, a young person met in Natitingou wants action to be taken to help Benin's agriculture take off in the sectors of cashew, pineapple, cassava, corn etc ...
"I would really like this government to focus on such initiatives because they have the merit of really putting young people to work. In the cashew sector, for example, if actions can be taken so that the cashew produced is processed locally, it would be an asset for the country, since it would create jobs for young people, " he said.
Another young student met in Natitingou congratulates the government on the break on this very meticulous subject. "I would like such initiatives to be scaled up, so many will come out of unemployment and underemployment," he said. One can undertake, and succeed in business in the department of Atacora he added.
Promotion of female entrepreneurship
Female entrepreneurship seems to be neglected or even forgotten in the country, says a resident economic operator in Natitingou.
"In Benin, we have the impression that women are left behind in these kinds of entrepreneurial programs. Women, themselves, vegetate in laziness and hover. Action must be taken to raise the standard of women in the field of agricultural entrepreneurship, because women are able to do the job " she continued. And on the ground, this observation seems to be real.
"If in the field of entrepreneurship women are also lagging behind, what is it for which factor? wonders a business leader based in Natitingou. Until we see the takeoff of women in the agricultural entrepreneurship sector, it is expected that the state plays its part to save women from the vicious circle that surrounds them.
