[India]: MANGALURU - Cashew research directorate celebrates foundation day

ICAR-Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur, celebrated its 33rd foundation day along with a farmers’ meet at Puttur on Tuesday.

Inaugurating the programme, Puttur MLA Sanjeev Matandur spoke about changing agricultural scenario in the country and exhorted farmers to adapt to the changing trends.

Venkatech Hubballi, director of Directorate of Coca and Cashew Development, Kochi, spoke about the role of the Directorate in popularising cashew and its area expansion in non-traditional cashew growing regions.

On the occasion, six publications on cashew cultivation prepared by scientists of ICAR-DCR, Puttur, were released. It was followed by felicitation of K. Nagaraja, a progressive farmer growing cashew in Kolar district for producing very high levels of cashew yields by following scientific cashew cultivation practices.

Mr. Nagaraj shared his success story with other farmers.

He regretted farmers of today are more aware of incentives than awareness on how to grow a crop.

He urged farmers to have complete knowledge of crop production and take help of scientists.

M.G. Nayak, Director (Acting), and M.G. Bhat, former director, were present.
