Wednesday, July 10, 2019. Abidjan. Cameroon's membership of the International Cashew Council (CICC) was officially recognized by its Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobé, on Wednesday during a ceremony at the Ivorian Ministry of Commerce. industry and the promotion of SMEs.

According to the Cameroonian minister, his country, because of its agroecological diversity, has enormous potential for the development of cashew culture. "Its development will benefit from the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of producers and the vast unexplored market potential. This new niche for growth, job creation and the fight against poverty, "said Gabriel MBairobé.

The Cameroonian government's desire to retain the cashew nut sector among these strategic choices to be developed began in 2018 with the development of the cashew value chain development strategy. "The goal is that by 2024, Cameroon will be visible on the international cashew market, with an annual sale of at least 150,000 tons of cashew nuts and 60,000 tons of good quality cashew kernels. "He said.

The Ivorian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Promotion of SMEs, Souleymane Diarrassouba, meanwhile, was pleased with the accession of Cameroon to the CICC which he said, is rewarding the efforts of Côte d'Ivoire , strongly involved in the management of the CICC and support the positioning of West Africa, the first cashew production area producing a quarter of the world supply.

Despite the challenges of industrialization, Minister Souleymane Diarrassouba stressed that Côte d'Ivoire has set itself the ambition to transform 50% of its production with financial support and government measures. This initiative is encouraged by the recent draft ordinance on customs and tax benefits (customs duties, tax credits). "It is up to industry to seize these opportunities to invest heavily in the cashew sector," he said.

Let us note from the boss of the trade, that Côte d'Ivoire is working to operationalize the International Cashew Advisory Council, in order to enable it to play its full role. The accession of Cameroon comes just in time to give a strong signal to all countries that are previously in hesitation.
