The various interventions envisaged in this context include the replanting of infected or aging orchards and the encouragement of production.
According to Ilidio Bande, director of the National Cashew Institute (INCAJU), a 5.5 million cashew program is currently underway to control pests and diseases.
In addition, says the official, the government has received a line of credit of 60 million meticals, or about $ 970,000 from USAID, to encourage commercial production of the raw material.
In Mozambique, cashew production reached 142 000 tonnes in 2018/2019. It occupies about 1.2 million people. The country has 17 processing units with a cumulative processing capacity of 105,000 tonnes of nuts per year.
