The acts of the agreement were initialed Thursday in Abidjan by Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, Souleymane Diarrassouba and Adama Coulibaly, respectively Minister of Agriculture, Trade and Economy and Finance and the leaders of four companies FMA Industry, Kiyo Ivory Coast, Ivory Cashew Nuts and North Cashew.
This ceremony follows that of August 5 which saw the signing of eight agreements between the State of Côte d'Ivoire and industry to significantly increase the processing of cashew nuts in Côte d'Ivoire.
It brings the number of industrial enterprises processing cashew nuts from eight to 12 and the commitments to increase the amount of unprocessed processed nuts from 107,000 tons to about 170,000 tons over a four-year period.
"These commitments will achieve a transformation rate of domestic production of cashew nuts by at least 52% by 2022" against less than 10% currently, said the Minister of Trade and Industry, Souleymane Diarrassouba.
Ivory Coast's ambition is to transform half of its production locally and this requires strengthening competitiveness in the transformation of this speculation in order to increase investments in the sector.
In this context, the government instituted tax incentives in July for investments in the agricultural processing sector.
The signed agreements are the illustration of this measure which devotes the exemption of customs duty and VAT (value-added tax) on the batches of spare parts, according to the investment zone.
Since 2014, the Ivorian government has adopted a series of measures, including the warehouse receipt system, the subsidy for processing, the guarantee mechanism with banks and the project to promote the competitiveness of the value chain. cashew nut.
In January, the World Bank provided financial support of CFAF 107 billion (US $ 185 million) to Côte d'Ivoire for a project to improve the competitiveness of the cashew value chain.
The project includes the construction of four industrial units for local processing and should allow the development of adequate infrastructure, the reinforcement of new storage capacity through the rehabilitation of warehouses and stores, the strengthening of the traceability and quality control system to create good marketing conditions.
Ivorian production is expected to reach 2019, about 800 000 tons against 760 000 tons in 2018 for a grinding rate of 10% with 29 grinding units.
Most of the production exported in the form of raw nuts to Vietnam, India and Brazil is made by small producers, about 250,000, grouped into about twenty cooperatives.
